Lyon Defeats Nice 1-0 with Lacazette's Penalty and First Half Goal
Lyon defeated Nice 1-0 in a Ligue 1 match played on Saturday at the Parc OL. The victory was achieved thanks to a penalty scored by Alexandre Lacazette, who converted from the spot after being fouled in the box by Nice defender Benjamin Mendy.
The first half saw Lyon dominate possession but they were unable to create many clear-cut chances. However, it was Nice who had the best chance of the first period when Moussa Dembélé found himself one-on-one with Lyon goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, but he could not convert his shooting opportunity.
In the second half, Lyon upped their game and created more opportunities. Lacazette came close to scoring in the 67th minute when he headed a cross from Florian Thauvin into the air, but his header hit the post.
But it was not to be for Lyon as Lacazette missed another golden opportunity in the 82nd minute. He had a clear sighted shot that went wide of the target.
However, Lyon did not give up and continued to press forward in search of an equalizer. They finally succeeded in the 94th minute when Lacazette slotted home from the penalty spot after Mendy fouled him in the box.
The victory was Lyon's sixth straight win in all competitions and puts them in good position to challenge for the title. Lacazette's goal was a crucial moment in the game, and it will undoubtedly boost his confidence ahead of the upcoming international break.
