Sevilla Extends Lamela's Contract Until 2026
Sevilla have extended the contract of forward Luis Miguel Ángel "Lamela" Rodríguez, commonly known as just Lamela, until June 2026.
The Argentine international joined Sevilla in January 2019 from Tottenham Hotspur for an initial fee of €45 million and has since made over 70 appearances for the club.
Rodríguez scored 21 goals in his first season at Sevilla, including a hat-trick against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last-16 match.
He was also part of the team that won the Copa del Rey in May 2020, scoring twice in the final victory over Barcelona.
In addition to his impressive performances on the pitch, Lamela is also known for his charitable work off it, having been appointed as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2020.
The news of his new contract extension comes after he recently returned from a two-month injury lay-off, during which time he underwent surgery to repair a tear in his left hamstring.
Sevilla manager Jose Pekerman said: "We're delighted to extend Lamela's contract with us until 2026, we know what he brings to our team both on and off the pitch."
Lamela himself expressed his happiness at extending his stay at Sevilla, saying: "I'm very happy to sign this new contract with Sevilla, I've always wanted to play here and I can't wait to start the new campaign."
The news of his new contract extension is likely to boost the morale of the rest of the squad, who will be hoping to continue their success under Pekerman's leadership.
Overall, the news of Lamela's new contract extension is great news for Sevilla fans and the wider football community, as he is one of the most talented forwards in the world.
